Panic Disorder Short Case Study

Seema (not real name), a 25 years old woman gets breathless and starts to feel dizzy absolutely out of nowhere. This psychiatric disorder is characterized by panic attacks that may seem to strike out of the blue and for no reason at all. Because of this, people with panic disorder often experience anxiety and preoccupation over the possibility of having another panic attack.

People may begin to avoid situations and settings where attacks have occurred in the past or where they might occur in the future. This can create significant impairments in many areas of everyday life and make it difficult to carry out every day routines.

Many a times, Seema doesn’t want to go to office because that’s where it hits her the most. It becomes difficult for her to work. She is recommended psychotherapy or talk therapy along with antidepressant and anti-anxiety medicines and deep breathing. It seems to help her to face her fears and to remain calm and maintain composure.
